ABOUT
Why Where History Happened?
History is woven into the streets we walk, the buildings we pass, the landscapes we explore and the communities we call home. Standing where history happened brings the past to life in a way that words alone rarely can.
I'm Rupert, and I created Where History Happened as a personal project inspired by a love of history and place. I'm based in Brighton & Hove. In an increasingly digital world, it's also an excuse to step away from the desk, spend time outdoors and pay closer attention to the places around us. My aim is simple: to tell history through the places where it unfolded and encourage people to see familiar places with fresh eyes, and perhaps discover new ones along the way.
By supporting charities connected to each guide, I hope these stories not only celebrate the history of places, but also contribute in a small way to the people and organisations working to make them great places to live, work and visit today.
The Guides
Each guide explores a city, neighbourhood, community or movement through a series of places that reveal its story. Arranged chronologically, the guides trace key moments in history through the locations where they happened. They are free to read and can be enjoyed as a walk, over several visits or simply from wherever you are.
Supporting Local Charities
Every guide supports a local charity connected to its subject, recognising the organisations working to strengthen the places and communities featured in these guides.
Donation buttons at the beginning and end of each guide link directly to the charity's fundraising page. The guides will always be free, but if you've enjoyed one, I hope you'll consider making a donation.
